Choosing the right decoration method can make a major difference in how your custom apparel looks, feels, performs, and fits your budget. At API Corporate, our expertise isn’t limited to one printing process. We evaluate the full project: including the garment, artwork, quantity, deadline, intended use, and budget: to recommend the best solution.
With more than 50 years of experience, in-house production, and strategic production partnerships, we can provide everything from custom t-shirts and short-run digital prints to embroidered uniforms, specialty techniques, and large branded apparel programs.
Our Approach: Match the Process to the Project
Every logo and garment has different requirements. A detailed full-color design may need digital printing, while a bold one-color logo may be best suited for traditional screen printing. A polo, hat, or uniform may call for embroidery or a patch instead.
| Project need | Recommended process |
|---|---|
| Short run, no-minimum or low-minimum order | Digital printing or DTF |
| Full-color artwork, gradients, photos, or fine detail | Digital printing or hybrid printing |
| Bold 1–4 color design | Traditional screen printing |
| Larger run with strong opacity and durability | Traditional screen printing |
| Complex multi-color design in higher quantities | Hybrid digital/traditional printing |
| Polos, hats, uniforms, outerwear, or premium apparel | Embroidery |
| Dimensional branding for hats, jackets, bags, or uniforms | Patches |
Our team can also combine techniques across one apparel program. For example, you might use screen printing for event t-shirts, embroidery for management polos, and patches for jackets: all coordinated to maintain a consistent brand identity.
Full-Color Digital Printing and DTF

Full-color digital printing is a flexible option for artwork that includes gradients, photographic detail, fine lines, shading, or many colors. API Corporate uses digital decoration options including Direct-to-Film, commonly called DTF, to transfer detailed designs onto apparel.
DTF is especially useful when you need:
- Short runs, including no-minimum or low-minimum projects
- Custom t-shirts with complex or full-color graphics
- Photographic images and detailed illustrations
- Gradients, color transitions, and small design elements
- Multiple garment colors or styles in the same order
- Fast production for rush jobs or time-sensitive events
Because digital processes require less setup than traditional screen printing, they’re often an efficient choice for smaller quantities and highly detailed artwork. DTF can also provide flexibility across cotton, polyester, blends, and other common apparel materials, depending on the garment and application requirements.
API offers digital options designed for different project goals. Our economical digital option is available on the Core Collection, while our Premium Digital Screen option on other apparel can provide a wider color gamut and a thinner, softer print feel.
Digital printing is not always the best choice for every large order. When artwork is simple and quantities are high, traditional screen printing may provide better production efficiency. That’s where our recommendation process matters.
Traditional Screen Printing

Traditional screen printing remains one of the most dependable methods for durable, vibrant custom apparel. The process uses a separate screen for each color, with ink pushed through the prepared screens and cured onto the garment.
Screen printing is often the right choice for:
- Bold one-color through four-color artwork
- Logos with solid spot colors
- Strong opacity on dark garments
- Durable uniforms and work apparel
- Promotional products and event t-shirts
- Medium-to-large production runs
Traditional screen printing creates a classic ink-on-fabric appearance and can deliver strong, consistent color across a production run. It’s particularly effective when your design uses a limited number of bold colors rather than photographic detail.
Premium and Promotional Screen Printing Options
We can recommend different screen printing approaches based on the garment, use case, and budget.
Premium screen printing is designed for higher-end branded apparel and everyday wear. It can provide a softer feel, better stretch, and a polished finish for premium t-shirts, hoodies, polos, and other garments.
Promo or event printing is a practical, economical option for larger campaigns, events, fundraisers, and promotional programs that typically use one to three colors. It offers reliable durability while helping control the cost per piece.
Our in-house production capabilities also allow us to support repeat orders, top-off orders, short runs, and rush projects when timing is critical.
Hybrid Digital and Traditional Printing

Some designs need the detail of digital printing and the structure, opacity, and production efficiency of traditional screen printing. Hybrid printing combines both approaches.
A typical hybrid process uses a screen-printed underbase with a digital color and detail layer applied over it. This combination is well suited for:
- Complex multi-color graphics
- Detailed illustrations with gradients
- Larger quantities that need efficient production
- Designs printed on darker garments
- Projects requiring both color flexibility and strong coverage
Hybrid printing can help bridge the gap between a highly detailed digital design and the cost and durability advantages of screen printing. It’s one of the many techniques we evaluate when a standard process doesn’t fully meet the project requirements.
Embroidery for Premium Branded Apparel

Embroidery adds dimension, texture, and a professional finish to branded apparel. It’s an excellent choice for:
- Polos and button-down shirts
- Hats and caps
- Custom uniforms
- Jackets and outerwear
- Work shirts
- Premium corporate apparel
- Hospitality, healthcare, and service-team clothing
Rather than applying ink to the surface, embroidery uses thread stitched directly into the garment. It’s especially effective for left-chest logos, sleeve designs, hat fronts, and other smaller branding locations.
Our embroidery service includes:
- In-house logo digitization
- Sampling before full production
- Careful thread and placement recommendations
- Consistent stitch quality across repeat orders
- Production for one-off samples, short runs, and larger programs
Digitization converts your logo or artwork into a stitch file that an embroidery machine can read. A well-prepared file helps preserve important details, improve stitch quality, and produce a cleaner finished logo.
For headwear, we also offer the Cap America hat program, which provides access to hat styles designed with embroidery in mind. This helps support clean, consistent decoration across a range of caps and branded headwear.
Custom Patches
Patches offer another way to create dimensional, recognizable branding. API Corporate can provide embroidered, printed, leather, and faux leather patches for:
- Hats and caps
- Jackets and outerwear
- Work uniforms
- Bags and accessories
- Team apparel
- Niche or specialty apparel programs
Patches can be applied with an industrial heat press or sewn directly onto the garment. Heat application can provide an efficient, clean finish, while sewing offers a traditional attachment method for applications that require additional permanence.
Patches are often most cost-effective at quantities of 36 or more pieces, although the right run size depends on the patch style, size, material, and application method.
Color Matching and Specialty Techniques

Color accuracy is an important part of branded apparel. We can review your brand standards, artwork, garment color, and decoration method to help achieve a consistent result.
Depending on the project, available techniques may include:
- Spot-color screen printing
- Full-color digital printing
- Digital and screen-print hybrids
- Embroidery
- Puff and raised effects
- Printed or embroidered patches
- Leather and faux leather applications
- Specialty ink and texture options
Through our strategic partnerships, we can expand beyond any single production method or product line. This gives clients access to virtually unlimited combinations of garment colors, decoration processes, specialty techniques, and customized solutions.
You don’t have to know which process to request. You bring us the goal, artwork, garment preferences, quantity, and deadline. We’ll help determine the right path and manage the execution.
Expanded Specialty Techniques
API Corporate can also coordinate additional decoration options through our strategic production partnerships, including PVC badges, raised silicone prints, puff prints, butter-soft pre-washed screen prints, print-and-embroidery combination patches, and glow-in-the-dark effects. The best technique depends on the garment, artwork, use case, desired feel, and budget, and our team helps clients select and coordinate the right combination.

API Corporate combines more than five decades of experience with in-house production capabilities. That allows us to support a wide range of projects, including:
